Emma Swinton

Edinburgh-based, director & writer, Emma Swinton is always
seeking empathy in her work.

Shamanically trained and with a passion for telling stories of lost voices, her work centres around myth, folklore and themes of justice.

A mentee on the 2025 WFTV Mentorship Programme supported by Netflix, her BFI-funded short The Witch’s Daughter earned a nomination for
Best British Director at the British Short Film Awards.

Her extensive experience includes working at the production companies of leading British directors Ridley Scott and Sally Potter, as well as shadowing Emmy-winning director Jessica Hobbs on block one, series five of
The Crown across prep, shoot and post.

A graduate of the University of Westminster, Emma has directed acclaimed talent including John Rhys-Davies, Jo Hartley and Burn Gorman.

With four shorts under her belt, including winning the Alexa Challenge run by Arri and Directors UK for her short Unearthed, Emma’s films have screened at Oscar- and BAFTA-affiliated festivals, including Palm Springs, Calgary, Underwire, Aesthetica and the London Short Film Festival.

Emma is currently in early development on her debut feature.
